The European Institute of Cultural Routes received representatives from the city of Ourem-Fatima on 23 and 24 January 2017 in Luxembourg.
Mr. Paulo Fonseca, Mayor of the city of Ourem-Fatima, and his collaborator Mr. Fernando Paquim, presented their project of Sanctuary Cities Route to the EICR. Mr Hans Fellner, manager of the Fortified Towns of the Greater Region Cultural Route also participated to the working meeting.
Important meetings were organised for the visiting delegation in Luxembourg: with H.E. Mr. Carlos Pereira Marques, Ambassador of Portugal in Luxembourg and with Mrs. Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg.
Me Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg, invited the delegation to an official lunch at the Episcopal Residence, in the presence of Mr Maurizio Bravi, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the World Tourism Organization and to the Enlarged Partial Agreement (APE), and representatives of the Catholic Church in Luxembourg. The lunch, and the visit of the cathedral Notre-Dame of Luxembourg that followed, offer the opportunity to highlight the strong local attachment to Our Lady of Fatima, due to the importance of the Portuguese community in Luxembourg and the annual pilgrimage to Wiltz carried out in her honor.
