Iter Vitis Cultural Route in Portugal now counts with a modern centre for the interpretation of vine and wine. The inauguration ceremony took place in Ponte de Lima, in the Minho Verde region, on March 4th and 5th. The Mayor of Ponte de Lima Victor Mendez and the Portuguese Minister of Culture Luis Filipe de Castro Mendes discussed about the importance of wine tourism as a form of cultural tourism and the wine landscape as a testimony of the European cultural heritage.
Emanuela Panke, General Manager of the Iter Vitis Federation, Jose Maria Juan Alonso representative of Iter Vitis Spain, Jose Arruda, Director of the Portuguese Association of Wine Municipalities, Joao Abreu Lima, representative of the Association of the Portuguese Way of Santiago and Fernando Paquim for the Way of Fatima, reached an agreement for the launch of a pilot itinerary in Portugal. The route is integrating the Pilgrimage way with wine tourism activities, with the aim to widen and differentiate the offer along the Camino de Santiago and in the area of Fatima.
