On 18th January 2018, the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR), represented by Stefano Dominioni, Director of EICR and Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes, and the Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (OEI), represented by Paulo Speller, Secretary General of OEI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions. The signature took place in Madrid, at the General Secretariat of OEI.
OEI is the international governmental organisation for cooperation among Ibero-American countries in the fields of education, science, technology and culture. OEI cross-cutting mission and strategy relate to the issues of development, democracy and regional integration.
The Memorandum of Understanding sets the cooperation framework between EICR and OEI, in order to promote the extension of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe to reach-out to the Ibero-American countries and to establish new itineraries, based on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe model. The Memorandum of Understanding furthermore paves the way to the mapping of the cultural routes in the Ibero-American countries, encourages their participation in the Cultural Routes events, promotes their engagement in several different cultural cooperation projects.
Eladio Fernández-Galiano, Head of Culture, Nature and Heritage Department, Directorate General of Democracy, Council of Europe, Carlos Abicalil, Director General of Education, Science and Culture of OEI and Mónica García, Executive Secretary of Culture Programme of OEI attended the signature.
