Throughout the Middle Ages, manuscripts play a leading role in the culture of the Occident. In a well-balanced harmony of image and words, they carry out both established and new ideas. The exhibition shows the breathtaking beauty of mediaeval miniatures created in the foremost spiritual and artistic centres of the Southern Netherlands. It offers a unique survey of what was taking place in the artistic field between 800 and 1475, from the Lower Rhine to the North Sea.
